Gentlewoman

Finally! And fi-nal-ly, I sprang for my first iPad. I have waited for the perfect pencil for a long time, but Luddite that I am, waiting years on technology is no problem. It’s been worth the wait. I’ve been playing with the layers and features, and watching YouTube videos and generally delighting in having a huge range of portable tools. To focus on all of the options, I imported a picture from Gentlewoman magazine of Laura Mulleavy, co-founder of Rodarte fashion house. Then I colored on top of the image with a palette I lifted from a different spread in the same issue. Each aspect – using the color palettes, or figuring out why I couldn’t erase a mark (layer selection) was its own little journey. I had some super funky textures and blends, but eventually got the hang of it and merged them together when I felt I was done. My special someone asked me if she was intentionally orange. The answer is yes. And the colored background that created minty eyeballs is too. That’s the freeing part of digital sketching / drawing – it’s low-stakes. Do I miss all of my awesome and overflowing art supplies? No, they’re waiting for me AND my acrylic ink painting class on CreativeBug TV with Missy Dunaway has me excited to spread out and make a mess soon …
